8:00 am - 2:00 pm
The plan is to meet at 8:00 AM, at the Funeral Centre parking lot. To get there, turn left (west), from Beecroft Rd. through the gates of the cemetery and after a short drive turn left into the parking lot (watch for the Funeral Centre sign).
From the parking lot will proceed to our first site, The Kwan Memorial. It is important to arrive on time so we can drive as a group. The memorial is difficult to find as it is not marked. We plan to spend a couple of hours at The Kwan Memorial.
Brief history: York Cemetery was founded in 1948 on the farm land owned by Joseph Sheppard after whom Sheppard Ave. was named. Notable interments: Tim Horton, Barbara From, Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrvna.
Photo Opportunities: At the Kwan Memorial there is a collection of intriguing sculptures depicting Oriental traditions, fall colours, landscapes and multi-denominational tombs etc.
After the cemetery visit, we will head to The North York Centre for the Arts site, across from the cemetery. We will end our outing on Bogert Ave., first block South of Sheppard and Beecroft . There we will find two of the newest architectural additions to the North York’s landscape The Emerald Park Buildings.
Social: Plan to meet around noon at Tim Horton’s located at the corner of Yonge and Bogert Ave.
Parking Options: Along Beecroft Rd , also there are a few city parking places or leave the car at the Funeral Centre and walk.
