SUMMARY:Online Speaker: Huibo Hou (Black &amp\; White Landscape)
DESCRIPTION:\n\nPersonal Expressive Black and White Landscape Photography
\n\n\nBlack and white photography has a timeless appeal\, often
can touch viewers in a more profound level.  Some landscape photographer
s may find it difficult to work without color. In the first half of this t
alk\, Huibo will delve into the development of one’s personal vision\, d
rawing from her own evolution in B&amp\;W landscape photography. In the se
cond half\, she will explore various compositional and tonal control techn
iques\, including her postprocessing flow\, with the aim of improving one
’s vision of seeing and editing in black and white. \n\n\n\n&nbsp\;\nBi
o\nHuibo Hou (https://www.huibohou.com)\, is a landscape photographer bas
ed in San Diego\, California. She fell in love with photography about 25 y
ears ago as a hobbyist while working in the wireless communication industr
 y. Then life got in the way\, and she had to set aside her photography pur
suit for quite some time. In early 2015 she rekindled her love for photogr
aphy and gradually became more serious about the craft. Her work has been
recognized internationally in recent years with multiple awards and public
ations. Landscape photography\, especially in black and white\, is the art
medium that she is passionate about. It serves as her creative outlet to
express how she observes\, interprets\, and connects with nature.\n\n&nbsp

DESCRIPTION:&nbsp\;\n\n\nABSTRACT PHOTOGRAPHY : A Personal Journey\nWhat is
abstract photography? Just an out of focus image - hardly! Abstract photo
graphy can take on so many different forms its hard to pin down an exact d

ll cover and discuss the many forms of abstract photography and the techni
ques used to create them. Simplicity\, composition\, angle of view\, light
ing\, harmony and most importantly mystery. I discuss how to create effect

SUMMARY:(DO NOT DELETE) 2025 O3C Interclub Open Challenge
DESCRIPTION:2025 OCCC Interclub Open Challenge Competition Information\nDea
dline\n\nThe deadline for TDPC Member submission of digital images for the
OCCC Open Challenge Competition is today Thursday April 24th\, 2025 at 10
:00 pm.\n\nDigital File Specifications\n\n Format: File must be saved as
jpeg (.jpg) using the sRGB color space\n Image Sizing: Either the width o
r the height must be exactly the maximum of 1920 pixels wide or 1080 pixel
 s high\; maximum file size 3 MB\n\nSubmitting Images\n\n To upload your i
mages use the Image Upload form below\n Based on the # of images you uplo
aded\, calculate the fees due ($2.00 per image\, to a maximum of 12 images
)\n Then\, submit your payment using the PayPal payment form below the Im
age Upload form\n\nCategories\n\nThere are 11 different categories this ye
ar\, detailed below:\n\n As last year\, there will not be a Print Categor
y this year\n There is also no pure nature wildlife category this year\n
There are 4 separate nature categories with substantially relaxed composi
tional/technical rules but the key is the image must fit the category. Han
d of Man is permitted. This includes:\n\n Nature Birds\n Nature Animals\
n Nature Botany\n Nature Landscape &amp\; Geology – does NOT permit Ha
nd of Man\n\n\n The Expansive Views category provides for a range of land
scape\, seascape\, geology\, astronomy and cityscape images. Hand of Man i
s permitted.\n There are 5 pictorial categories comprising of:\n\n Peopl
e in Action – intended for sports photography with people substantially
 visible in the image\n People\n Architecture\n Pictorial\n Creative Vi
sion\n\n\n The annual themed category for 2025 is “Canadiana"\n\nDetail
s about the various categories and explicit rules can be found on the O3C
website here explaining what imagery is appropriate within each category a
nd explains further limitations and exclusions. Awards\, medals and certif
icates will be presented in these categories to individuals and clubs.\n\n
Assistance\n\nPlease make sure you read the rules carefully and place your
entries in the correct category. If you are unsure about placement in a p
articular category\, you can always request a review by submitting your im
age via email to o3c-review@tdpc.ca and our review team will respond.\n\nD
etails\n\nThe OCCC Open Challenge is both a club and an individual competi
tion. TDPC has performed well in this competition in recent years. Among o
 ver 35 competing clubs\, TDPC garnered a 3rd place finish in 2018 and a 1s
t overall in 2017. One reason for this showing was the high level of parti
cipation by our members. We would like to see this trend continue and enco
urage you to submit your best photos again this year to help us in this qu
est.\n\nAny image\, as long as it\, or one that is substantially the same\
, has not been submitted to the OCCC in the past\, is eligible. There is n
o time limit on the creation date of submitted images (so\, you could cons
ider entering images that placed well in past internal TDPC competitions).
\n\nAs indicated above\, there are 11 categories and you can submit up to
12 entries in total since more than 1 entry per category is allowed. As st
ated\, there is no restriction on how many of these entries can be entered
in any single category. Once again\, this year’s competition will inclu
de a Specialist Award for each category so submitting a high number of ent
ries in one category may also give you a better chance at winning the spec
ialist award for that category. In addition there is a Diversity Award for
makers submitting to multiple categories\n\nRules and regulations for thi
s competition can be accessed from the OCCC website here. This site includ
es a link so you can download a copy of the 2025 Rules and Guidelines.\n\n
Artificial Intelligence (AI)\n\nThere is an increased focus on usage of AI
tools:\n\n AI generated imagery that uses Text-to-Image or Image-to-Imag
e Generative processes that draw from an external\, cloud-based database o
f photographs – content not owned by the maker -- is not allowed for any
portion of a photo entry whatsoever (eg. Adobe's 'Generative AI’ featur
es in Lightroom and Photoshop).&nbsp\; &nbsp\;\n Programs that allow AI "
Remove" and "Expand" Tools WITHOUT the use of Text-Prompts to remove eleme
nts (distractions\, wires\, people\, etc.) or expand image area with eithe
r local or cloud based processing are acceptable so long as it represents
no more than 10% of the final image\, (the only exception being the Creati
ve Vision category where there is no specified limit – however\, all ele
ments of the CV project must have been created by the maker and not using
an cloud-based AI sources).\n\nEntry Fees\n\nThe entry fee for the competi
tion is $2.00 per image\, to a maximum of $24.00 per entrant. The Toronto
Digital Photography Club will collect each member’s entry fee using the
Payment Form on the upload page and submit it to O3C on your behalf.\n\nSo
if you plan to enter the OCCC Open Challenge Competition you will need to
be logged in when visiting the calendar date of Thursday\, April 24 2025.
 \n\nGood luck!\n\nTDPC Board of Directors\n\n[ewz_show_webform identifier=

SUMMARY:Outing - East Don River Trail Exploration
DESCRIPTION:Outing to East Don River Trail\nApril 29\, 7:00 PM\nPlease join
us on April 29 at 7:00 PM for a walk along the East Don Trail to look for
wildlife and a few landscape shots. The trail is paved and mostly flat. D
epending on what we find\, we might walk up to 8 km but will probably walk
less. We will meet at the East Don Trail Parking lot at the end of Old La
wrence Ave. Heading east from Don Mills\, the entrance is just past the en
trance to the Don Valley Parkway on the south side of Lawrence. Note that
there are two parking lots on the way down the hill and we will meet at th
e lower parking lot. You can try putting the following code into your GPS:
PMQC+F5 North York\, Ontario.\n\nWe recommend you bring your camera plus
a lens suitable for birds and other wildlife. You might also want to bring
something like a 24-105 for landscapes if this interests you. Tripods are
optional but would be useful if you want to blur running water. We will h
ave about 90 minutes before dusk so you might want to prepare for some low
-light photography. Please be prompt as we will want to start the walk jus
 t after 7:00 PM.

SUMMARY:FOTO Walk
DESCRIPTION:FOTO is one of several new apps that are challenging the domina
nce of instagram. These apps are being started by photographers who are di
sillusioned with what instagram has become and feel that photographers nee
d something better. The app is hosting a global photo walk on Saturday Sep
tember 27 at 8:00 AM at Starbucks\, 4 King St. W\, Toronto. This is not a
club activity\, but might be of interest to club members. To join\, you mu
st download and sign up for the app\, which is free. It is called FOTO Inc
on Apple and I believe has an Android version as well. When you sign up\,
you need to provide the user name you selected when you signed up for the
app.\n\nOnce you download the app and join\, you can register for the wal
k here: &lt\;&lt\; Register for Walk &gt\;&gt\;\n\nThe walk is being led b
y Graeme Roy\, an accomplished Toronto street photographer. You can click
on his name to go to his website and see some of his work. This is an oppo
rtunity to try street photography and observe how an accomplished photogra
pher approaches the genre. Note that street photography usually involves a
LOT of walking and you will be active most of the time.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n&nb
