Gathering at the Beach just east of the Ferry dock at Wards Island. This is a fair-weather event.

To get back to in-person-meetings, and in lieu of the traditional pizza night, TDPC Outing Committee is organizing an Outing to the Toronto Wards Island. We will meet at the Ward’s Island beach, just east of the Ferry dock to enjoy and photograph the City Skyline at sunset.

Sunset will occur that day at 7:31 pm; Civil Twilight ends at 8:00 pm. Would suggest you take the ferry leaving at 6:30 pm in order to arrive to have time to chat and scout locations. If you want to eat at the island, it is suggested you catch the 5:30 pm ferry. More about Food below.

Directions

You can get to the Toronto Islands two ways. The traditional way is by ferry from the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal located at 9 Queens Quay, at the foot of Bay Street. Easiest way to get there is to take the Line 1 Subway down to Union Station. Transfer to the 509 or 510 Streetcars and get off at the first stop. There is an elevator at the street car stop available there to get you up to street level, so you don’t have to the climb stairs. Cross Queens Quay and stroll to the Ferry Terminal.

Cost of the ferry, Adults $8.70 and Seniors $5.60. See the link below.

Purchase Ferry Tickets in person at the Ferry Terminal, or purchase online https://secure.toronto.ca/FerryTicketOnline/tickets2/index.jsp

You have the option to take the Water Taxi, if you’re not good at adhering to schedules. The Cost is $12.00 per person one way; add $1 if you use Credit or Debit. (See link below.) You can take the regular ferry back once you’re on the island, so you don’t need to use a water taxi to get back.

Toronto Harbour Water Taxi
https://www.torontoharbourwatertaxi.com
Fare: $12.00/person one way, until 10 pm. (Mon to Thur).
At the foot of York Street at Queens Quay

You can drive down to Queens Quay and there is parking available, but you are on your own with that one.

Ferry Schedule

Ferry to Wards Island departs the Terminal at 3:30, 4:30, 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30 pm.

Return Ferry leaves Wards Island at 7:00, 8:00, 9:00, 10:00….last ferry is at 11:40pm.

Note : The Ferry Schedule for the Fall Season is not officially posted, use the link below for updates closer to the date.

Food

If you want to eat on the island, there are two restaurants near by. Both serve good food, are licensed and have outdoor patios. Prices are pretty much in line with what is being charged these days.

We are not formally organizing a dinner, but the island Café is conveniently very near the ferry dock and beach. Would recommend taking the 4:30 or 5:30 ferry to give yourself plenty of time to relax and enjoy your meal. It’s amazing how quickly time flies.

Keep an eye for other Club members and you can catch up what people have been up to for the last 2-1/2 years.

The nearby restaurants are as follows:

Island Café
90m from Ward Island Ferry Dock
Open until 8:00 pm (no new customers after 7:30pm)
https://www.islandcafeto.com

The Riviera – Ward Island’s Kitchen
(Along Cibola Ave) 0.5 km from Ward Island Ferry Dock
Open until 8:00pm
Check Facebook.com for “The Riviera Ward’s Island Kitchen”.

Note: both establishments have outdoor patio facilities and are licensed.

If you are planning to attend, please book your spot below so we know how many are planning to come.  Also, we can notify you if there are any changes in plans.
