Outing to Port Hope
Sunday September 28, 2025 10:00 AM
Please join us for an outing to Port Hope to photograph the annual salmon migration as they jump in the river to reach their spawning grounds.
In addition to the salmon run, Port Hope has many historic buildings, a beach and waterfront. There is a walking and driving tour you can do of historic buildings as well as the locations of movies that have been shot in the town.
<< Historic Walking Tour >>
We will meet at the south-west corner of Queen and Walton Streets, near the bridge, at 10:00 AM. Note that Port Hope is about a 1 hour drive from Yonge and 401 and that you should arrive earlier to get parking and to walk to the meeting location(9:30 arrival is suggested).
We will meet for an optional lunch at 1:00 PM at Turtle John’s Restaurant and Bar, located at 64 John St. Please tell us in advance if you intend to come for lunch so we can make a reservation.
Free parking is available at 95 Mill St., South and on Augusta St. by City Hall. There is more free parking on Elias St. just north of city Hall and further north at 34 Cavan St. There are also lots available that offer pay parking. We suggest you arrive early to get parking as we might not be the only ones who want to visit at this time of year. Note that the southern parking lots are a 30 minute walk from the fish ladder, located near the 401. Our explorations might never get that far but you will need to do some walking.
If you plan to come for the outing only without lunch, please register for one of the Outing Only tickets for the event.
If you plan to come to the lunch as well get the outing and lunch ticket.
Please register by Sept 22, 2005 so we can make reservations. If you register after that we cannot guarantee there will be space for lunch.
