Port Lands Outing
Saturday December 6, 2025, 13:00
Meet at the outside clock tower at Union Station (TTC)
or
Meet at Cherry & Commissioners St. @ 14:00 (Drivers)
On December 6 (weather permitting) we will head to the Port Lands to photograph the new bridges and to take shots of the city in the waning light of late afternoon from Polson Pier. The new bridges are sculptural pieces of architecture in their own right and can be used to produce work similar to that of Joel Tjintjelaar ( https://bwvision.com/ ) and Julia Anna Gospodarou ( https://www.juliaannagospodarou.com/ ). These are often long exposure black and white images that capture moving clouds in the sky with static structures as the subject.
As the sun drops, we can go to Polson Pier to photograph the city from that iconic location. We will be doing long exposure shots, possibly panoramas as well as experimenting with intentional camera movement to get more abstract shots of the city. Due to the early sunset, we will be able to get a few night shots as well.
Those of us taking TTC will meet at the clock tower in front of Union Station and take the 114 bus from there to the corner of Cherry and Commissioners streets. We will be at the corner at or before 14:00. If you prefer to drive, you can meet us at the corner of Cherry and Commissioners streets just before 14:00. There is some street parking in the area but it can be hard to find. Google maps shows a parking lot at that corner but it was a pile of mud when I was there in the Spring so I am not sure it is really a parking lot yet.
