Yellowstone in Winter

Description of the Talk:

Having experienced two winters in Yellowstone and one in the fall I can definitely recommend visiting in the wintertime. Despite the logistic limitations, there are many more unique photographic opportunities. I will dive into the pros and cons and recommendations on how to visit Yellowstone in the winter with realistic expectations as well. I will show examples of the diversity of landscapes and plethora of wildlife that might be seen in winter at Yellowstone. Hopefully this presentation will encourage some to add it to their bucket list. Please join me on a visual tour of Yellowstone in Winter.

Bio:

I am a 65 year full-time physician practicing for the last 33 years. I am an Interventional Radiologist by profession who uses x-rays to make diagnoses and treat patients using minimally invasive interventional techniques. I visualize images in a scientific sense so nature photography allows me to use the other side of my brain for more creative and enjoyable purposes. I have always taken tourist photos and my kids growing up but it wasn’t until about 20 years ago when I signed up for a workshop on the Crystal Coast near me that my life changed. Now I use up almost all my vacation time traveling the world in search of that photographic adventure that is part of my bucket list of things to experience before it is too late. I have been to many places in North and South America and to Canada many times also. I have traveled down south to New Zealand and Antarctica and even to Pakistan. However, one of my favorite places has been Yellowstone in Winter because of the pristine and raw beauty of Nature with Fire and Ice modes. I have given many presentations over the past 20 years as a member of Carolina Nature Photography Association( Includes North and South Carolina) organizing spring photo weekends and participating in Members Choice Contests and serving on the Speakers Committee. I have been honored in the last 8 years to have won the Best in Show award twice at our annual meeting for landscape and wildlife categories. I had the honor of meeting Rob Robson recently in the Puna region of Argentina and I volunteered to give my first International Photography talk here.
