Rick’s presentation will concentrate on the origins of his minimalist style, his newly discovered passion for still life and how, later in life, he never stops the learning process.

BIO

Rick Bogacz was born and raised in Toronto and now lives just outside Huntsville, Ontario on Lake Vernon. He started his career as a print journalist in 1981 but after 13 years. enrolled in Humber College’s Creative photography program.

Following graduation he worked both as a photographer and reporter before switching to digital media with stints in editorial roles at America Online, the CBC, Quebecor Media and Microsoft.

During Covid, Rick rediscovered photography as a way of keeping busy and getting outdoor without being around crowds. As a self-described minimalist, he adopted that philosophy in his long exposure landscape work inspired by photographer Michael Kenna and artists Christopher Pratt and Edward Hopper.

Lately he has been exploring minimalist still life, juxtaposing common everyday objects with negative space. His primary influence in this genre is the still life and flower work of Robert Mapplethorpe.
