December 8, 2026 – 7:30 PM

Description

Her work consists of single-exposure images made in camera. In her presentation, she will share with us her philosophical approach towards photography, the influences that have shaped her aesthetics, and discuss the common themes “STAR+” (i.e. Simplicity, Texture, Accent, Rhythm, and Plus), that recur in her images. Her objective is not to replace but to add to your “toolkit”, as well as suggest additional ideas for photographing landscapes.

Bio

Xuan-Hui Ng began photography as a form of self-therapy. Her mother’s death plunged her into despair until a chance encounter with nature set her on the path to recovery. Its majesty gave her perspective and reignited a sense of wonder. Initially, she photographed to prolong the serenity that nature brought. Now, she photographs simply to celebrate its beauty and eternalize her serendipitous encounters with the natural world.

Xuan is from Singapore and now lives in Japan. Her solo exhibitions include “Interludes” and “A Gracious Breath” at Koslov Larsen Gallery and “Transcendence: Awakening the Soul” at the Griffin Museum of Photography. She was recently part of a group exhibition “Rapt in Wonder” at the Houston Center for Photography. In 2022, she was interviewed by BBC World Service’s Cultural Frontline on “Creativity and Mental Health.” She is a contributor to ELEMENTS landscape photography magazine and has written for Lenscratch.
